Josh = Baseball

Seems to be a true equation these days. He’s been doing conditioning sessions at the Husky’s facility since October and they’ve now started getting out into the field for 3-4 hour practices on the weekends.

Not only that, but he’s also joined the St. Catherine’s CYO 7th-8th grade baseball team and they just completed their first game of the season today. They played against the Bush school team which went 6-1 last year and won 7-3! Apparently only 5 of their members returned from last year. Anyway, it was still a great game. Josh pitched the first 3 innings where we gained a lead of 4-3 and ended up being the winning pitcher as we never lost the lead. The boy’s played well, we saw some great hits, good fielding, and fast steals, even on the new 80′ baseline…  Thanks to Manager/Coach John Todd for getting this team organized and on it’s way!

I’m sure we’ll all be eating/sleeping baseball for the next 6 months now…

Gymnastics and Volleyball season

Morgan’s been in 4 meets now, starting better than she ended last year and increasing each time. Should have some video to show sometime soon, probably post it on Facebook.

Zach, meanwhile has started playing Volleyball with the 5th graders at St. Catherine’s. This is the first time they’ve played. They’ve won a game and they’re improving fast!

Basketball ends strong in February

Morgan’s team takes second in the championship! The St. Catherine’s and Fairview 6th grade girls team did a great job through the playoffs and ended up in the final game of the season. They were facing the absolute best team in the league and the final game showed that, but we played hard and made a good showing. Second place is pretty good in that situation.

Basketball Season

Basketball has been coming out of our ears lately! Three games nearly every weekend and practices all the time. This is one sport that all three of the kids participate in and enjoy. All three are pretty good at it too!
Though Zach’s team didn’t make a lot of wins, that doesn’t reflect how good they played. Zach made some very pretty shots. Josh was the lead scorer by the end of the season, showing his stuff with great breakaway runs down the court and a nice layup fir the score. He also got good at the ‘easy’ shots; making those close rebounds nearly every time. Very exciting and fast paced games, his 7th grade team made it through several playoff games.
Morgan’s team has been incredible this year. They’ve really improved over the season. So much so that they not only made the playoffs, but will now be playing the championship game! Their team really gelled this year and with some great coaching, they’ve been winning against all but the ‘amazon’ teams.
I’m looking forward to a bit of a break, but it’ll be a short one. Morgan continues her gymnastics, Josh, his baseball, and Zach is giving volleyball a try.

Josh is on All-Stars!

Josh has been recruited to the 11-12 year old All-Stars team for RUG Little League.  He is joining 11 of the other top players to represent the league in the upcoming inter-league playoffs.  If they do well, they could end up at a state-level tournament or even national!  Though RUG has traditionally not fared well in the standings against other leagues in the state, this year, the team looks really, really good.  Their manager, Coach Tom Ramsey, says “They’re ready!”.  He is excited about the possibilities this year and thinks we will have a good showing.  Ramsey, who himself grew up playing RUG little league baseball, wants the kids to have a lot of fun and feel as successful as possible.

If you have a chance, come join us for the games.  The schedule for following games is determined by whether the team wins or loses.  For latest game times and information, check the tournament bracket published on the Little League District 8 website.

Their first game is this Saturday, 3pm, at the Shoreview #2 field.  Come and cheer on Josh and his team!
