Great Anniversary!
Posted by Kevin in Kevin, Leigh, New Experience on June 26, 2010
Leigh and I had a great 16th Anniversary trip last weekend. Found a cozy hotel in Anacortes, WA, stayed two nights on Fidalgo island surrounded by water and beautiful views and the weather was even pretty good! We mostly were just lazy; spending time together at the hotel watching endless episodes of Myth Busters or Dirty Jobs or reading, but we also took a walk through downtown, window shopping a bit and finding nice places to eat. On Saturday, we took a jet boat ride through Deception pass. Nice views, but a pretty tame ride. On Sunday, we went Kayaking. First time for both of us and we took a 3 hour tour around Burrows island, just south of Fidalgo in a two man Kayak. We didn’t annoy each other too badly and got the hang of it pretty well…though we tended to drift off course quite a bit whenever I wanted to take pictures… It was overcast, but not too cold and it didn’t start raining until the trip was over. Nice timing! All in all, a very nice trip. Refreshing to be away from all the cares and responsibilities for a while. Many thanks to the families who hosted our kids over this weekend!
Two weeks of change
Posted by Kevin Tucker in Kevin on October 16, 2007
The past two weeks have been amazingly full of change.? And with change seems to come lots of work!? One of my colleagues at work made a few too many bad descisions and was invited to not return to work.? Unfortunately, he and I had been working together fairly closely on technical support and IT internal support…suddenly I have a bit more to deal with.? Then, the building maintenance crew finds a leak in the A/C system and over the weekend as they try to fix it, manage to flood nearly the entire 2nd floor of our building…unfortunately, the same floor that we occupy.? Thankfully, the flood missed most of our main work areas and our server room, so our damage was minimal.? However, we’ve been living with roaring fans and huge de-humidifiers humming in the background at work for the past week and a half…not to mention furniture moved around to access wet wallboard and carpets.? Oh, and luckily for him, my boss is on vacation for these two weeks!? His daughter got married and then he took the second week and went to Mexico.
Church and school have been interesting, too.? Pastor Dan Ford announced this Sunday that he will be taking a working sabbatical and leaving his position in the church for an undetermined amount of time.? We very much hope that he will be back after not too long a time.
Leigh and Christie Kirk just went to represent Fairview’s at a big School Fair over in Bellevue this past week and came back greatly encouraged.? They did an excellent job with their presentation and Leigh feels that she really connected with a number of people who were there.

There’s a lot more going on, too, RUG LL website, Soccer Games, Gymnastics Meets, Tae Kwan Do, School Board Meetings, PTF meetings, Elder board… Oh, did I mention that Josh got braces?? Well, he got some form of them anyway, a system to change his bite somewhat, then he’ll get the traditional braces later.
I guess it’s good that I like being involved…
Verse for the day: Proverbs 22:3 – Sensible people foresee trouble and hide!? But gullible people go ahead and suffer the consequences.
Some days, I think I should be sensible and just hide!
Sports, sports, & more sports
Ironic to think that I, shunning sports and even P.E. while growing up, should have such athletic kids!
This is a very busy fall with all the kids participating in numerous sports activites.? Josh & Zach are both strong players on their soccer teams, playing in all positions.? Morgan is still involved in gymnastics as a part of the League AAA team at Seattle Gymnastics and, numerous meets are coming up soon!? All three of them have decided to do cross country this year, Morgan & Josh running a mile and Zach the half mile.? Morgans has been especially determined with this as running is definately not her favorite sport, yet she has endured numerous training runs during the summer and has already finished well in her first cross country meet this last Sunday!
The family sport now is Tae Kwan Do, excluding Leigh due to her back.? All the kids & I tested for their yellow belts at the beginning of September and passed!?

Take a look at the kids sport pages for their achievements!
Prayers

Some prayers on my heart right now…
? 1. Leigh is going to be getting a CT scan tomorrow to really start looking into why she is having so much trouble with her stomach and back.? She has not had much appetite for quite and while and has lost a lot of weight.? She’s happy about that last part, but it hasn’t been a fun way to do it…
2. My family.? That each of the kids is getting the opportunities they need to grow healthy, strong and wise.? That they can become the leaders in the areas that God has gifted them with, and that they learn to love the Lord and others.
3. Fairview.? The school is in a real spiritual battle right now.? We are one of the very last holdouts for Protestant Christianity within the Seattle City limits as far as education goes.? There are various issues, but the main thing is that we are not seeing the enrollment we expect and are thus having to cut back services, making enrollment less likely, etc.? A cycle going in the wrong direction.? I believe that God wants Fairview to be here and to accomplish His ministry.? I pray that everyone involved is seeking His will.
4. How can the church be helping each other and others better?? That is a question I’ve been asking myself for a long time and I am praying that God provides a great opportunity.
There are,? of course, many, many more, but those are my top concerns right now. I’d love it if you partnered with me in prayer!

Fairview is hosting a Vacation Bible School in the evenings this week from 6pm to 8pm that the kids will be attending and us adults will probably be helping in.? It’s going to be fun!
CAPS Board Meeting & BBQ at the Tuckers
Posted by Kevin Tucker in Events, Kevin on May 19, 2007
We’re hosting the next CAPS board meeting at our house and making it a BBQ!? Planning on starting the coals at 5 so they’ll be ready to start cooking by 6.? We’ll start the meeting when we have a quorum!
Another baseball weekend
This was the weekend of the RUG Little League Hit-a-thon and picture day.? Created a new picture? gallery for them.? Not only that, but Zach’s team also managed to have a game scheduled that day.? He and his team played well as always.? His friend Evan on his team got the first Grand Slam of the season.? Way to go Mariners!
Josh and Zach have been soliciting support for their hit-a-thon last week and have one more week to ask for additional sponsors and collect funds.? If you’re interested in help out their league to pay for new uniforms, equipment, and such, the boys would be glad to hear from you!? You can sponsor them for a flat fee or per foot for their longest hit.? Josh, at the minor league level, hit 100 feet.? Zach, at the coach pitch where they let the ball roll before counting the distance, managed 165 feet.
Morgan decided to spend her time with her friend Drea, even though her family was cleaning house.? She said she’d rather clean with her friend than stand around at a baseball field…?
Some friends had some tickets to the Mariners that night that they couldn’t use, so Leigh took Josh, Zach and Loren Nelson to the game.? Too bad the Mariners didn’t do so well.? Morgan and Kevin stayed over at the Gordons for dinner and had Pizza Hut pizza and watched some episodes of the Addams Family and the Monkeys.? Funny stuff.? If you ever want to find a movie or tv show you can’t find anywhere else, try the Scarecrow video store on Roosevelt and 50th.? They have everything!
This Sunday we enjoyed services at Fairview, then Leigh went to spend some time working on quilts for Project Linus at Pacific Fabrics up on Northgate Way.? Morgan spent some time with Loren & Dora at their house and Kevin & the boys went over to Maple Leaf Park and spent some quality time in the batting cage.? They even let me hit a little bit.
At 5, we headed back to Fairview for a nice time watching a video from Anderson about the music of the Church of God over the years.? It was really good.? One amazing thing they showed was a “choir” of 12 pianists!? They played double on 6 grand pianos and even had a director!? It was pretty amazing.
Back at home, I (Kevin) spent some time out in the yard until dark, tying up raspberry vines (transplants from Uncle Mas’s garden) and cleaning up the tiger lilly bed.? Need to figure out what’s eating the tiger lilies and see how to protect them…
